That set it apart and made it its own game, now it just feels like a bit of a cheap ripoff that doesn't quite hit its mark. I also think it was un-necessary to go and try and make it like GTA with the full open world thing, I quite liked the way the first Mafia did it, with a more directed experience that still made you feel like you had a bit of freedom. I dunno, it was a fun game, but I think it falls short of where the bar has been set for these sorts of games. Nice touch though being able to kill the shopkeeper and just steal everything. I didn't go round and try out all the shops, but the clothes shop was a bit annoying, cos you can't see what anything looks like on your character until you buy it, and in the gun shop you don't get any stats or real info on a gun until you buy it. In game cutscenes seemed a little bit amateurish at times too, like the guy drinking from the bottle of booze that is clearly still sealed with a top on it, and I think graphically, it falls a little bit short of hitting the mark. I didn't like the driving much either, but I'm just putting that down to the fact I was doing it with a keyboard, hopefully its better with an analogue controller of some kind. The cover system felt a bit s*** though, no easy way to run from cover to cover, or hurdle over cover, and you can't break cover just by moving away from it, you have to press the cover button again. avp wont run dx11 unless you reinstall the driver after boot up too. have to install the driver each time when i fire up my rig even thou. also i have noticed something keeps diabling dx11 with ati cards. make sure you turn on simulation for driving handles better i think. as for the car handling thats proberly what a car that era drove like. Not bad, combat is pretty good guns and fists. Sure you can bring buildings down, but the come down in large pieces, shoot the concrete pillars in the factory in the demo and the debris that comes down and stays in the game world reacting to the surrounds far surpasses what you see when someone puts a mortar strike on a building in BC2. I think the demo plays really well, and I really really doubt BC2 could reach the level of detail mafia can in terms of PhysX. I think their game engine needs a LOT of work. My pc will be on its knees trying to run that s***.Which is crazy when you think of what BC2 is doing with really no problem at all on a modern PC. Seems pretty cool though, but I think I'll get it on 360 Ditto. Oh and no dimming of the desktop on exit for me. I had no issues with car handling at all, got around corners fine didn't hit parked cars, your not trying to take every corner flat out are you? Got onto the highway after being chased by the cops (smashed into the first 50 parked cars I saw) and the slightest direction change sent me into a series of fishes that sent me headfirst into another car. I want to be able to be able to drive around the city at a reasonable speed without losing it after going around a single corner. Jesus christ monkey balls what is it with making cars handle like shopping trolleys full of bricks? Thanks GTA4 for ruining it for everyone. Was thinking this could be shaping up to be a pretty money worthy game. Really like the speed limiter to match speed with the traffic easily. like 1 second short, but of course it's just a demo. The game itself seems really good, detailed and plenty of cool features, load time was very short. not so good with it turned on using my GTX275. Just played the demo, runs great at 1080p high details with PhysX off.
